American Standard Furnace Model Series Overview

The grades are based on our proprietary algorithm which compares a variety of criteria to make it easy to compare models across brands. Note that models with lower grades aren’t necessarily a bad choice, as lower cost models tend to have more basic features, warranty coverage, or efficiency ratings, which lowers the grade relative to more expensive models.

American Standard’s Entry-Level Furnaces

Average price for an entry-level furnace: $4,950 to $5,950

Models

American Standard S9B1: Single-stage, multi-speed furnace with an AFUE of 92.1%. This furnace has a heavy-duty cabinet that insulates the unit, reducing operational noise and preventing heat loss for a more efficient system.

Silver L9X1 Ultra-Low NOx: Single-stage, multi-speed furnace with an AFUE of 95%. This is an ultra-low NOx furnace, meaning it has a special component that premixes fuel and oxygen before combustion. The optimized ratio ensures cleaner burning and fewer nitrogen oxides, which are greenhouse gasses.

Silver S9X1: Single-stage, multi-speed furnace with an AFUE of 96%. This furnace is equipped with a self-diagnosing furnace control that tracks problems and stores error codes, making troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance faster and more accurate.

Ideal For

American Standard’s entry-level, single-stage furnaces will work well in smaller homes and milder climates. These are fairly basic heating systems in terms of technology, but they do have some quality components and design elements, including self-diagnostics, secondary heat exchangers, and special blowers.

American Standard’s Mid-Range Furnaces

Average price for a mid-range furnace: $5,450 to $6,450

Models

Gold S9X2: Two-stage, multi-speed furnace with an AFUE of 96%. This furnace is dual fuel compatible, meaning you can install it with a heat pump. When the two systems are hooked up, they’ll automatically switch between gas and electric heat depending on the temperature to save you the most on heating bills.

Gold S9V2: Two-stage, variable-speed furnace with an AFUE of 96%. This furnace is equipped with a secondary heat exchanger that traps exhaust gasses and extracts additional heat from them before releasing them. That means this furnace can produce more heat with the same amount of fuel compared to a non-condensing furnace, making it more efficient.

Gold S9V2-VS: Two-stage, variable-speed furnace with an AFUE of 97%. This furnace is equipped with a patented Vortica II blower. It has a special design to make airflow quieter and more efficient. It’s also made with durable materials that are meant to prevent cracking, corrosion, and rust for greater longevity.

Ideal For

The mid-range offerings from American Standard will perform well in medium to large homes in colder climates, even if you get long winters with extended cold periods. Thanks to the two-stage, high-efficiency operation, these systems will keep your home warm and at a consistent temperature even when there are fluctuations in the temperature outside.

American Standard’s Top-Tier Furnaces

Average price for a top-tier furnace: $5,950 to $6,950

Models

Platinum 95: Modulating, variable-speed furnace with an AFUE of 97.3%. This is American Standard’s top-tier furnace: it’s their most expensive, sophisticated, and efficient model. The things that set this furnace apart are the modulating operation, cleanable filter, and the AccuLink™ Communicating System, which enables components to communicate and constantly make precise adjustments to the heating and airflow.

Ideal For

This furnace is equipped to handle the longest, coldest winters North America can throw at you even if you have a large space to heat. The modulating operation makes incremental adjustments to the heating output as necessary to keep your home at the right temperature, no matter what it’s doing outside. This is also the furnace for you if you're looking for a few extra bells and whistles, such as communicating technology.

American Standard Exclusive Features

Feature 1 – AccuLink™ Communicating System

AccuLink™ is an advanced communicating system that’s integrated into select American Standard furnaces. It allows the different components of your HVAC system to communicate with each other to ensure optimal operation, and it lets you monitor performance and control settings remotely.

Feature 2 – Comfort-R™

Remove excess humidity from your home to improve comfort. It can help you save by reducing moisture levels in the air, so you can keep the thermostat at a higher setting and still feel comfortable.

One of the best things about the Comfort-R™ technology is that it also operates in summer to reduce humidity levels and keep your home cooler and more comfortable.

Feature 3 – Vortica™ II Blower

Built with strong composite materials that resist rust, corrosion, and cracking for increased durability, the Vortica™ II Blower is one of the most efficient blowers on the market. It increases airflow while also reducing noise, and delivers efficient and consistent airflow in both summer and winter.

Feature 4 – AccuClean™ Whole-Home Air Cleaner

The AccuClean air cleaner is a special filter that’s designed to remove up to 99.98 percent of allergens, pollutants, and contaminants from the air in your home.

The filter can actually eliminate particles as small as 0.1 microns, making it more effective and efficient than HEPA filters, and 100 times more effective than standard furnace filters. What's more, the AccuClean filter is reusable, and can be cleaned quickly and easily with a vacuum.

Finally, this special filter comes with a 10-year limited warranty on functional parts when you register your furnace within 60 days of installation.

Note that the AccuClean filter doesn’t come standard with any American Standard furnace, but can be purchased separately for compatible models.
