Academic integrity is a commitment, even in the face of adversity, to six fundamental values: honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility, and courage. From these values flow principles of behavior that enable academic communities to translate ideals into action.

Academic integrity allows students and staff the freedom to build new ideas, knowledge and creative works while respecting and acknowledging the work of others. The University will respond to academic misconduct in a fair, consistent, transparent and timely manner.

Responsibility: you show responsible behaviour when you lead by example, when you resist negative peer pressure, and when you discourage others from violating academic integrity principles. Being responsible means being accountable to yourself and others and to do your work to the best of your abilities.

I affirm that I will not give or receive any unauthorized help on this exam and that all work will be my own. I will complete this exam in a fair, honest, respectful, responsible, and trustworthy manner. This means that I will complete the exam as if the professor was watching my every action.

You could fail a class, be dismissed from your major, or even be expelled from your school. The severity of the consequences depends upon the type of academic dishonesty.

If you cheat in a course or another academic exercise, you are taking away your opportunity to learn, develop and improve your skills, and obtain an educational degree that reflects your own academic achievements.

Specifically note page numbers, authors' full names, and publication dates. Avoid downloading information from Internet sources directly into your own files. Place quotation marks around any notes you make in which you are using a source's words or ideas.

Responsibility for upholding the values of integrity is simultaneously an individual duty and a shared concern. Every member of an academic community – each student, faculty member, and administrator – is responsible for safeguarding the integrity of its scholarship, teaching and research.

Cheating, plagiarism, collaborative work, multiple submissions without the permission of the professor, or other kinds of academic dishonesty are considered unacceptable behavior and will result in formal disciplinary proceedings usually resulting in suspension or dismissal.

In summary, an academic integrity violation could appear on your transcript and influence college admissions, but it's not the end-all-be-all. It's essential to focus on the areas of your application where you can excel, such as grades, extracurriculars, and essays, and directly address the violation if necessary.

Bring witnesses or supporting documentation with you to support your claim of innocence. Your instructor may withdraw their accusation after this, or they may explain to you their reasons for continuing the academic misconduct accusation.

For youth, that means being honest in academic situations despite pressures to succeed, listening to their own inner voice about what is right, and behaving in ways that earn the trust of people around them, as well as standing up for themselves and for others in social situations.

An important reason that schools promote academic integrity is that it builds trust, understanding, equity, and genuine learning. Encouraging students to do their own work and maintaining a high degree of authenticity, results in meaningful outcomes that extend far beyond their college career.

Honesty is an indispensable foundation of teaching, learning, research, and service, and a necessary prerequisite for full realization of trust, fairness, respect, and responsibility.

Academic integrity is essential as the behavior undermines the learning and credibility of the students. It can save the high standards and reputation that reflects the personality of a student to the wellbeing of the society. Conversely, its breeches can also diminish the student in his academics.
